Al Marri emphasized that the revamped festival format will place a strong emphasis on showcasing and promoting Arab cinema. While excitement builds for the festival's return, details regarding its new management team are still under wraps. Notably, Shivani Pandya Malhotra, who previously served as the manager of the Dubai Film Festival and later played a pivotal role in launching Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Film Festival as its managing director, will not be involved in the upcoming incarnation of DIFF. Pandya Malhotra recently stepped down from her role at the Red Sea Film Festival, a significant development in the regional festival landscape.
DIFF's last edition in December 2017 showcased a robust selection, including 18 Arab features—with over a third being world premieres—alongside regional premieres of acclaimed international films like "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which closed the festival. The event also fostered strong ties with global film institutions, hosting delegations from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Golden Globes. The revival of such a prominent platform is expected to reignite enthusiasm within the regional and international film communities, once again positioning Dubai as a key player in the global film festival circuit.
