Privacy Policy
We collect as little as a website can. This page says exactly what that means.
The short version
You can read Popcorn Wire without an account, without giving us your name, and without us building a profile of you. We run no analytics product and no tracking pixels. The only thing this site stores in your browser today is your choice of light or dark theme.
What we store in your browser
- Your theme preference. Kept in your browser's local storage so the site does not flash the wrong colours on your next visit. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it.
That is the whole list. Clearing your site data removes it, and the site works exactly as before.
What our servers record
Like any web server, ours writes a technical log of requests: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. These logs exist to keep the site running and to identify abuse. They are not used to profile readers, are not combined with anything else, and are not sold or shared.
Our site is served through Cloudflare, which acts as a network layer in front of it and processes the same request data in order to filter attacks and serve pages quickly.
Advertising
Popcorn Wire is funded by advertising. We are in the process of enabling Google AdSense. Once advertising is live on the site:
- Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers in order to serve and measure ads.
- Ads may be personalised based on your previous visits to this and other sites, unless you opt out.
- You can turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendors at aboutads.info.
- Google's own handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy & Terms.
Advertising is always labelled on our pages. We do not place advertising on this page or on our other reader-information pages.
Your rights
We operate under French law and the General Data Protection Regulation. You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to its processing, and to complain to your national data protection authority. In practice we hold almost nothing, and a request will usually be answered by telling you exactly that.
Children
Popcorn Wire is a general-interest news site and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. Material changes — a new analytics tool, a new advertising partner — will be described here before they take effect, not after.
