Fans of French television are buzzing with the news that Un gars, une fille, the cult series that originally aired on France 2 from 1999 to 2002, is making a comeback. The show, which famously launched the careers of Jean Dujardin and Alexandra Lamy, chronicled the daily lives and squabbles of a couple with a unique blend of humor and relatable situations. Now, a new generation will get to experience the charm of the series, albeit with a modern twist and a fresh set of actors.
According to a report from Ecranlarge, the new leads have been officially announced. Stepping into the shoes of 'Loulou,' originally played by Jean Dujardin, is Gillian Mussano. Mussano, known for his humorous content creation under the pseudonym 'Ton Pote Gillian' on social media, will be making his credited debut in a major audiovisual production with this role.
Taking on the character of 'Chouchou,' a role immortalized by Alexandra Lamy, is Alice Daubelcour. Unlike her co-star, Daubelcour brings a background in acting to the project, with previous appearances in series such as Après la nuit and L’amour (presque) parfait. She has also featured in the TV movie C’est qui le chef ? alongside Michel Cymès and Bruno Solo, and the film Un Noël en famille with Noémie Lvovsky and Didier Bourdon.
Intriguingly, the new characters will reportedly be named Alice and Gillian, a departure from the original Alex and Jean. This suggests a potential meta-narrative or a more personalized approach to the reboot, perhaps drawing on the actors' own personas. While the series is expected to retain its classic theme music and the signature off-screen secondary characters, it aims to offer a contemporary perspective on couple life and gender dynamics, promising a fresh take on the clichés that were both humorously pertinent and, at times, awkwardly complacent in the original.
The new iteration of Un gars, une fille is slated to premiere in the first half of 2027 on RMC Life (channel 25) and will also be available for streaming on RMC+. Production plans are ambitious, with nearly 100 episodes reportedly ordered, backed by a budget exceeding one million euros. This full-scale reboot follows a 2023 special, Un gars, une fille (au pluriel), which celebrated the show's 20th anniversary with various personalities reenacting classic sketches, but this upcoming series marks a complete revival with a dedicated new cast.
