Filmmaker Stanley Yung is taking a bold leap into the science fiction genre with his latest project, Hollow Moon, as reported by Ecranlarge.com. The film, which recently underwent a title change from Moon People, has garnered attention for assembling an impressive ensemble cast, signaling a more ambitious scope for the director.
The premise of Hollow Moon delves into a classic sci-fi nightmare: a mission gone awry. The story, penned by Niko Foster, follows a team of seasoned astronauts dispatched to the Moon to verify the groundbreaking discovery of water deposits. What begins as a routine scientific endeavor quickly devolves into a desperate fight for survival when the crew encounters an unforeseen and terrifying threat.
Yung, whose previous credits include low-budget horror features like 2 Bedroom 1 Bath and #1 Serial Killer, as well as the cult B-movie Sting of the Black Scorpion, is venturing into a more anxiety-inducing, high-stakes narrative. This departure from his usual style is bolstered by a cast that brings considerable gravitas to the project.
Leading the expedition is Jena Malone (The Neon Demon, Donnie Darko, Hunger Games), who takes on the role of Dr. Jennifer Foster. She is joined by Dermot Mulroney (Scream VI, Zodiac, My Best Friend's Wedding) as Sam Foster, and Mekhi Phifer (8 Mile, Dawn of the Dead) as Captain Josh Briley. Vannessa Vasquez (East Los High) rounds out the main crew as Dr. Diana Alvarez.
While the film is generating buzz for its intriguing premise and strong cast, Hollow Moon is currently seeking an international distributor and does not yet have a release date. Fans of Jena Malone, in particular, will be pleased to note her continued presence in the sci-fi realm, as she is also slated to appear alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Pendulum.
