Popcorn Wire reports, as first revealed by Variety, that the highly anticipated Vietnamese supernatural horror film, Bloodline: The Curse Within, is heading to the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) this year. The market, a key component of the Busan International Film Festival, will serve as the launchpad for Mockingbird Pictures to introduce the chilling feature to international buyers and distributors.

Known locally as Huyết Thống, the film is slated for a theatrical release across Vietnam on December 25. Directed by Đinh Đức Thiện and produced by K8 Studio and Hoàng Gia, Bloodline: The Curse Within delves into the harrowing journey of a renowned pediatric heart surgeon whose daughter becomes the victim of a vengeful ghost. When modern medicine proves futile against an ancient curse, the surgeon is forced to confront his own buried transgressions, realizing that the very ghost tormenting his family is rooted in his long-hidden past.

The film boasts a strong cast led by award-winning actor Quách Ngọc Ngoan, celebrated for his role in Victor Vu’s The Immortal and recently seen in The Journey of Heroes. He is joined by Quang Tuấn, a familiar face in Vietnamese horror known for fronting The Corpse franchise, and Lan Phương, who appeared in Phi Phong: The Blood Demon, currently the highest-grossing Vietnamese horror title to date.

Director Đinh Đức Thiện emphasized the film's thematic depth beyond its supernatural elements. "The supernatural is only one half of ‘Bloodline,’" he stated, adding that he was keen on "placing medicine and spirituality side by side." Producer Hoàng Gia, who previously led development on The Corpse 2, echoed this sentiment, explaining that the team aimed for genuine scares while "grounding the horror in something deeply human – family, blood ties and the consequences passed from one generation to the next."

Mockingbird Pictures, with its mission to elevate Vietnamese and Southeast Asian cinema on the global stage, is championing Bloodline: The Curse Within as a prime example of quality filmmaking from the region. Phong Duong, the company’s business director and a co-executive producer on the project, highlighted the evolving expectations of horror fans. "Audiences today expect more from horror than a strong concept – they expect quality in every aspect of the filmmaking," Duong explained. He believes Bloodline embodies this ambition through its compelling storytelling, powerful performances, and overall cinematic experience, making it the kind of Vietnamese film Mockingbird is eager to present to the world. The company manages a substantial slate each year, including over 60 theatrical releases and more than 100 titles for post-theatrical distribution, showcasing a growing number of local hits with international appeal.
