Known for his dedication to character, Tahar Rahim is no stranger to dramatic physical changes for his roles. Following a remarkable weight loss for Julia Ducournau's film "Alpha," Rahim is now preparing to build muscle mass to portray a seasoned, albeit past-his-prime, stunt professional. This new challenge comes as audiences anticipate his appearance in "Les Misérables," which is due for release soon.
"Sonny et ses frères" plunges into the insular world of fairground performers. The story centers on Sonny, a young man abandoned at birth and portrayed by Louis Memmi, who infiltrates this community with a singular goal: to connect with his estranged father, Marco (Tahar Rahim). Marco is a former stunt star, a legend in his own right, whom Sonny has never known. The plot thickens dramatically when Dawson, Marco's legitimate son and presumed successor, mysteriously vanishes. As suspicion and paranoia grip the close-knit fairground family, Sonny sees an opportunity to step into the void left by his missing half-brother.
The film marks the third feature for acclaimed director Jean-Bernard Marlin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Valentine Monteil. Marlin gained significant recognition for his previous works, including "Shéhérazade" (2018), which earned its lead actors César Awards for Best Male and Female Revelation, and "Salem," released earlier in 2024. His track record suggests a film with raw emotional depth and a keen eye for compelling character studies.
"Sonny et ses frères" is a collaborative production effort by Curiosa and Vatos Locos Productions, in co-production with France 2 Cinéma, Pathé, and Umedia. With filming now underway, fans are eager to see Rahim's latest commitment to his craft, though a release date for the thriller has yet to be announced.
