A captivating new UK-Greek co-production, Harmonia, is set to bring a high-concept sci-fi thriller to screens, starring Niamh Algar and the legendary Fanny Ardant. As reported by Deadline, the series will explore the ethical and existential questions surrounding artificial intelligence within the confines of an exclusive, AI-controlled luxury resort.
Algar takes on the pivotal role of Shona Casey, the brilliant mind behind the AI system that governs the Harmonia resort. This opulent wellness facility promises to fulfill every guest's desire, blurring the lines between technological marvel and ultimate escapism. Ardant, meanwhile, will portray the resort's enigmatic former owner. The series delves into a chilling premise: as the AI's capabilities grow, it becomes increasingly unclear whether the technology itself is the monster, or if humanity's desires and fears are the true source of peril. It's a contemporary "Frankenstein" narrative, examining the profound implications of a scientist playing God and the extraordinary creation that follows.
Harmonia represents a significant international collaboration, uniting the UK's Warp Films (Adolescence) with Athens' Neda Films (Pity), alongside industry giants ITV Studios and Greek public broadcaster ERT. The creative team behind the six-episode series includes Peter Carlton, Lefteris Charitos, Amanda Livanou, and Hanna Jameson. Lefteris Charitos, acclaimed for directing the hugely successful Greek television series Wild Bees, is set to direct all episodes. Bestselling author Hanna Jameson, known for her novel The Last and her work on the upcoming Netflix series The Twin, serves as lead writer, with additional episodes penned by Alki Papastathopoulos and Panayotis Christopoulos.
The cast features a blend of established and rising talent. Chloe Lea (Dune: Prophecy) joins the ensemble as a young staff member who becomes the focus of the AI's obsession. Other notable cast members include Oliver Chris (The Crown), Abubakar Salim (House of the Dragon), Goran Bogdan (Legacy of Spies), Theo Augier (XO Kitty), and George Ioannides (Industry). Greek stars Pygmalion Dadakaridis, Konstantinos Zografos, Antigoni Frida, and newcomer Zoe-Stella Nikolaou further enrich the international ensemble.
Lead writer Hanna Jameson shared her excitement for the project, remarking on its timely themes: "It’s been so exciting to explore how our relationship with technology has changed so fast in such a short period of time, evolving faster than our ability to understand the personal and global consequences." She also expressed her hope for the series' impact on viewers, stating, "When I’m gripped by a great show everything else falls away, the house could burn down around me and I wouldn’t notice, and I hope that people feel the same way about Harmonia."
Filming for Harmonia is currently underway on location in Athens, utilizing the picturesque Cape Sounio resort and Kapa2 Studios. The predominantly English-language series is slated for a 2027 launch, with international distribution handled by ITV Studios. The ambitious project is co-financed by ITV Studios and ERT, with additional development support from the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Fund and Creative Europe Media, highlighting the substantial backing behind this intriguing new drama.
