After portraying a serial killer pursued by police in M. Night Shyamalan's film Trap, Josh Hartnett is preparing to face a different kind of threat than investigators. This time, it emerges from the depths in Below, Netflix's new unsettling series. The streaming platform has just unveiled the first trailer, and it's truly chilling!
Josh Hartnett Hunts a Sea Creature in Below
What if the waters off Newfoundland harbored something far more dangerous than mere legends? This is the premise of Below, the new six-episode Netflix series. Josh Hartnett leads the cast, portraying Calvin Penney, a fisherman haunted by his father's mysterious death. When a marine creature begins to attack residents and sow panic in the local waters, Calvin decides to confront it.
This is what the Below trailer reveals. At first glance, tranquility seems to reign in this small village off Newfoundland, until the astonishing appearance of an iceberg. Then, unsettling events unfold both on land and underwater, with repeated sightings of the marine creature.
This first trailer sends shivers down the spine and evokes the heavy atmosphere present in It: Welcome to Derry, adapted from Stephen King's mythical work. Much like the young heroes of that series, Josh Hartnett's character is relentlessly driven by this quest.
A Stranger Things Actor Joins the Cast
To solve the dark mystery of the marine creature, Calvin enlists the help of Fonda Howander, a marine biology researcher portrayed by Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Black Mirror). Calvin also has to protect his son, Wade, played by Charlie Heaton (who is known for his role as Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things). As the threat closes in, Calvin will have to choose between fleeing and confronting the danger.
The cast also includes Ruby Stokes (Bridgerton), Kaleb Horn (Revival), Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boy), and Joshua Close (Plan B). The limited series Below is set to premiere on Netflix on October 8, 2026!
