According to a report from Deadline, the two-time Oscar winner is circling the lead role in the highly anticipated biopic. This project aims to bring the remarkable life and career of Tommy Lasorda, one of baseball's most iconic figures, to the big screen.
Tommy Lasorda's legacy in baseball is immense, particularly with the Dodgers organization. After a brief playing career, predominantly in the minor leagues, Lasorda transitioned to management, where he truly made his mark. He climbed the ranks within the Dodgers, moving from scout to minor-league manager, eventually becoming the team's third-base coach in 1973. In 1976, he took the helm as manager, leading the Dodgers for two decades until 1996. During his tenure, he guided the team to four National League pennants and secured two World Series championships in 1981 and 1988. His managerial prowess earned him the National League Manager of the Year award twice, in 1983 and 1988, and he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997. Even after retiring from the Dodgers dugout, Lasorda continued his impact on the sport, famously leading the U.S. baseball team to a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 93, leaving behind an indelible mark as a passionate ambassador for baseball and the city of Los Angeles.
The script for Tommy & Me is being penned by George Gallo, Cambron Clark, and director Reid Carolin. Skydance Sports is leading the production, with Jesse Sisgold, Jason T. Reed, and Sandino Moya-Smith producing for the studio.
