After sending shivers down Netflix viewers' spines with his horror series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Midnight Mass, writer and director Mike Flanagan returns to terrify us on Prime Video with the trailer for his brand new mini-series: Carrie, adapted from the very first novel by cult author Stephen King!

What's it About?

Since birth, Carrie White has lived secluded from society, hidden by her mother, Margaret. However, when her father dies and her existence is revealed, she is forced to enroll in the town's high school. Bullied by her classmates, she begins to develop a strange power of telekinesis.

Who's in the Cast?

In the role of Carrie, we will find young actress Summer H. Howell, whom the general public discovered as a child in the series Channel Zero. Her mother, Margaret, will be played by actress Samantha Sloyan, primarily known for her roles in the series Scandal and Grey's Anatomy.

Among the supporting characters, we will have the pleasure of seeing several actors who previously appeared in other works by Mike Flanagan, who seems to be loyal to his collaborators: Matthew Lillard, who starred in the film The Life of Chuck, Michael Trucco, who participated in The Fall of the House of Usher, and Katee Sackhoff, who was seen in the film The Mirror.

What strikes you at first glance in the trailer is that this version of Carrie will be much more 'modern' than the book (which takes place in the 1970s), notably through the central role played by social media. This is a highly relevant adaptation choice for a story centered around a vengeful bullying victim, a choice Mike Flanagan embraced from the very first writing meetings.

Since the book has already been adapted several times before, it was out of the question for him to do the same thing again. Indeed, many new scenes seem to have been added to expand this very short Stephen King novel into 8 episodes. We hope that these new subplots will be just as captivating as the original story.

The Carrie mini-series will be available on Prime Video on October 7.
