Late last August, Coyote vs Acme finally saw the light of day in theaters after being initially sacrificed by David Zaslav and Warner, then embroiled in financial and fiscal maneuvering. But the film, directed by Dave Green, is getting the sweetest revenge by performing honorably at the box office, despite recent weeks being monopolized by blockbusters Spider-Man: Brand New Day and L'Odyssée.

Certainly, this Looney Tunes spin-off starring Will Forte and John Cena plays in a different league than the other two, but it continues to nip at their heels (and prove that Warner was wrong to discard it).

Coyote vs Acme earned an additional $11.9 million at the end of its second weekend of North American exploitation, according to Box-Office Mojo figures. Including the Labor Day holiday Monday, revenues climbed to $15.8 million, for a total of $38 million at the domestic box office.

As for the production budget, it is estimated at $70 million. Moreover, distributor Ketchup Entertainment, which acquired the film's rights, only invested $10 million in the promotional campaign. With over 3,700 copies (the widest release of the week), it only dropped one spot in the weekly ranking, landing in third place behind the bulldozers Spider-Man: Brand New Day and L'Odyssée.

While Warner's miraculous film remains far from the insane numbers of the latest Marvel and Christopher Nolan films, its attendance is holding up quite well. Indeed, it only shows a 27% drop, even as competition doesn't weaken either: only -19% for Spider-Man after six weeks of exploitation, and -9% for L'Odyssée after eight weeks on screen.

Although it has been released in about ten foreign markets so far, Coyote vs Acme still has no release date in France, nor even a distributor. We are therefore beginning to get used to the idea that it will probably not be released in cinemas, but directly on streaming. It remains to be seen when, and especially on which platform.
