A newly released teaser for the final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon introduces Jimmy Smits' character, Captain Alejandro Perkins. In the brief but impactful clip, Smits' character greets a confused and bloodied Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) with the line, “Welcome home, son,” before fading to black. Perkins is described as a former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who has found a unique way to thrive amidst the apocalypse.
Season 3 of the spin-off series followed Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl as they continued their arduous journey towards home and their loved ones. However, their path led them further astray, taking them through unfamiliar and distant lands, where they witnessed the varied effects of the Walker apocalypse. In the highly anticipated final season, Daryl and Carol will navigate the ravaged badlands of Spain, clinging to hope and each other as uncertainties about their future intensify.
Beyond Reedus and McBride, the series also features Romain Levi, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Candela Saitta, and Hugo Arbués.
The final season was officially announced during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025. Showrunner David Zabel shared insights into the upcoming conclusion, stating that the final season “will really allow us to complete the story of Daryl and Carol in Spain, and it will be very emotional and powerful. It will also complete this part of the characters’ journey, the European adventure, and so, it’s the last season of this iteration of the show. And then, what lies beyond that for these characters, we will see. I’m sure there’s plenty, and we’re always talking about it, but it’ll be the fourth and final season.”
Norman Reedus also reflected on his journey with the character, adding, “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward – Daryl’s journey is far from over.”
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is executive produced by David Zabel, Scott M. Gimple, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival, and Steve Squillante.
Smits recently reprised his role from the original Dexter series in Showtime’s Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, showcasing his continued presence in popular television dramas. Fans can now catch a glimpse of his new role in the recently released teaser for the show's conclusive chapter.
