As reported by Deadline, the pilot is set to star Havana Rose Liu in the lead role, placing her at the center of a story that blends intricate crime with the allure and perils of immense wealth. Liu will portray a petty criminal whose life takes an unexpected turn when she inherits a significant share in a mysterious and powerful corporation. This sudden inheritance propels her into a world of unimaginable affluence, but also into constant peril from a ruthless elite who view her as a formidable threat.

The creative force behind the camera is equally impressive. Hiro Murai, fresh off his historic Emmy win for directing the hit horror-comedy series Widow's Bay, will direct the pilot. Murai, a long-standing collaborator with FX, also serves as an executive producer on the project. His recent work includes directing and executive producing the drama miniseries The Marriage Plot, further solidifying his versatile talent across genres.

The narrative's foundation comes from none other than Wong Kar Wai, the acclaimed auteur behind iconic films such as Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love. Wong Kar Wai developed the original story and is also attached as an executive producer, marking a significant foray into episodic television with a U.S. network. His distinctive cinematic vision is expected to infuse the pilot with a unique stylistic flair.

The script for the pilot is being co-written by Charles Yu, known for his work on Interior Chinatown, and Julia Cho, whose credits include Turning Red and Elio. Both Yu and Cho will also serve as executive producers, alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, Kate Dean, Paul Schwartzman, and Wong Kar Wai. The pilot is a joint production between FX Productions and Searchlight Television.

Havana Rose Liu's casting highlights her growing prominence in Hollywood. She garnered significant attention for her breakout role in Emma Seligman's Bottoms and has since secured parts in projects from notable directors like Nicolas Winding Refn and John Carney. Her upcoming slate includes Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut, Jenny Suen’s Peaches, and an untitled A24 horror film, showcasing her diverse range and rising star power.

This pilot represents a compelling convergence of established talent and a burgeoning star, promising a sophisticated and engaging addition to FX's acclaimed programming slate.
