The Newport Beach Film Festival is preparing to fete Emmy Rossum, recognizing her powerful portrayal of an FBI agent in the Hulu series Furious. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rossum will be presented with the festival's Outstanding Performance in Television Award (Actress) on Sunday, October 18, at 3 p.m. at the Mainstage at Fashion Island.

The event promises an in-depth look at Rossum's journey in entertainment. It will commence with a career-spanning conversation, moderated by The Hollywood Reporter, which will be recorded live in front of a festival audience for a future episode of the popular Awards Chatter podcast. Following this retrospective, the festival will formally present Rossum with her award. Admission to this special celebration is free, though an RSVP is required for those wishing to attend.

Gregg Schwenk, co-founder and CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival, expressed the organization's enthusiasm for the upcoming tribute. “The Newport Beach Film Festival is thrilled to honor Emmy Rossum for her remarkable performance in Furious,” Schwenk stated. He further praised her diverse talents, noting, “From the opera stage to the screen to the director’s chair, Emmy has built a career defined by range and fearlessness. We are proud to celebrate her talent and the impact of her work.”

Rossum, 40, boasts a career that began at a remarkably young age, performing with the Metropolitan Opera at just seven years old. Her transition to acting saw her make significant impressions in films like Clint Eastwood’s 2003 drama Mystic River and the 2004 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, for which she earned a Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe nomination. For nearly a decade, she captivated audiences as Fiona Gallagher in the critically acclaimed series Shameless, securing two Critics Choice Award nominations.

More recently, Rossum has continued to broaden her television portfolio with roles in Angelyne (2022) and The Crowded Room (2024). However, it is her role in Furious that is drawing particular praise, with many considering it her most impactful performance to date. Rossum also serves as an executive producer on the Hulu drama through her Composition 8 banner. The series quickly garnered enough attention that a second season was ordered even before the first had completed its initial run, a testament to its critical reception and audience engagement. This role could potentially earn Rossum the first Emmy nomination of her career.
