Point Break, Kathryn Bigelow's directorial masterpiece, holds a special place in the hearts of 90s action cinema fans. Starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, the original film was a commercial success, grossing $83.5 million against a modest $24 million budget, not to mention its enduring popularity in home video.
Hollywood's previous attempt to revisit the myth, a 2015 remake directed by Ericson Core and written by Kurt Wimmer, starring Luke Bracey and Édgar Ramírez, was widely panned and a box office flop, earning $133 million globally on a hefty $105 million budget. Despite this, the Point Break saga is set to continue, this time on the small screen.

Point Break Takes to the Waves of Television
Rumors of a Point Break series first surfaced in late 2025, and now, the project has officially moved forward. According to Deadline, AMC and French broadcaster Canal+ have partnered to commission a first season consisting of eight episodes. Production will be handled by Alcon Television Group, known for its work on Blade Runner : Black Lotus.
Instead of a direct remake, which would likely face immediate criticism, the new Point Break series will jump forward three decades after the events of the original film. The plot will center on a new gang of bank robbers connected to the infamous 'Ex-Presidents.' The FBI, in turn, will be forced to enlist the help of a mysterious former professional surfer to infiltrate the criminal cell – a premise that will feel familiar to fans of the original.

Taking the helm as co-showrunners are Dave Kalstein, whose credits include Butterfly, Treadstone, and NCIS : Los Angeles, and Christopher C. Rogers, lauded for his contributions to Sugar and the critically acclaimed series Halt and Catch Fire.
For distribution, the Point Break series will stream on AMC+ in North America. Canal+ will manage distribution for its subscribers across France, Europe, Africa, and Asia, with StudioCanal handling global distribution. Filming is slated to commence in early 2027, though no cast members or specific launch date have been announced yet.
