The highly anticipated romantic comedy 'Honeymoon/Funeral,' which recently wrapped production in London, has found its North American home with Black Bear. The film brings together a stellar cast, including Greta Lee, known for 'Past Lives,' Rebecca Ferguson of 'Dune' fame, and 'The Gilded Age' star Carrie Coon, promising a vibrant dynamic for the unique storyline.

Helming the project is Nahnatchka Khan, the filmmaker behind the popular Netflix rom-com 'Always Be My Maybe.' Khan directs from a script penned by Julia Bicknell, a writer recognized for her work on the acclaimed series 'Yellowjackets.' This combination of talent suggests a sharp, witty, and emotionally resonant take on the romantic comedy genre.

The plot of 'Honeymoon/Funeral' centers on two women, played by Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee, whose paths converge on a flight from Los Angeles to London. One character is embarking on a solo honeymoon, having been left at the altar by her girlfriend, while the other is returning home for her mother's funeral. The film then chronicles their unexpected week together, an intriguing premise that hints at both humor and heartfelt moments amid contrasting life events.

MRC, the financier and producer of the film, oversaw its production. Worldwide sales for 'Honeymoon/Funeral' are being handled by FilmNation Entertainment. The deal with Black Bear was finalized several weeks after the film was shopped at the TIFF Market, underscoring its appeal within the industry. The film is currently in post-production.

Katie Anderson, Black Bear’s EVP of Acquisitions, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "’Honeymoon/Funeral’ is an original and hilarious story that is deeply human, anchored by the performances of Rebecca, Greta, and Carrie, three of the best actresses working today." She added, "We can’t wait to partner with our friends at MRC and FilmNation to share this world that Nahnatchka and Julia have created with audiences." This statement, as reported by Indiewire, highlights Black Bear's confidence in the film's creative team and its potential impact.

Khan also serves as a producer on the film alongside Jennifer Carreras for Fierce Baby, with Julia Bicknell also contributing as a producer. Black Bear has been active in the distribution space, with other upcoming projects including 'Wicker' starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, and 'Jonah' featuring Greta Lee and Cooper Hoffman, among others.
