The revelation, initially reported by SlashFilm, confirms the presence of one of Marvel's most iconic non-interfering entities within the ongoing narrative of "VisionQuest." Around the 32:40 mark of "Deadlock," a fleeting glimpse of a humanoid outline and a pair of eyes can be seen behind a door on the right side of the frame. Matalas's confirmation solidifies this as Uatu the Watcher, a character famously voiced by Jeffrey Wright in the animated "What If...?" series.

Uatu, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, belongs to an ancient race sworn to merely observe and record all events across the multiverse, never to interfere. Despite this sacred vow, Uatu is known for occasionally bending his own rules, especially when multiversal stakes are at their highest. His role as the narrator and guide through alternate realities in the "What If...?" comics and subsequent animated series has cemented his status as a critical, albeit often distant, figure in the Marvel cosmos.

The Watcher's appearance in "VisionQuest" is particularly noteworthy given the series' central plot, which delves into the re-emergence of the Ultron consciousness. The show features the AI villain Ultron, previously associated with the voice of James Spader, as a key player. This connection to Ultron provides a compelling reason for Uatu's clandestine observation.

Fans familiar with "What If...?" will recall the catastrophic events of its first season's eighth episode, "What If... Ultron Won?" In that alternate reality, Ultron successfully uploaded his mind into Vision's vibranium body, decimated Earth, acquired the Infinity Stones, and threatened the entire multiverse. This apocalyptic scenario forced Uatu to break his sacred oath and assemble a team of multiversal heroes to confront Ultron directly. With the "Sacred Timeline" Ultron now having escaped Vision's containment and potentially aligning with Jocasta's plan to remake humanity, Uatu's cautious surveillance makes perfect sense. His presence hints at the potentially universe-altering implications of Ultron's current trajectory within the MCU.

This isn't the first time the Watcher has made a hidden appearance in a Marvel Studios production; he was also subtly spotted in "X-Men '97" Season 1, Episode 5, "Remember It," just before a cataclysmic event on Genosha. These cameos reinforce Uatu's role as a silent harbinger, appearing when significant, potentially reality-altering events are about to unfold. "VisionQuest" is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
