Fans of high-stakes drama and real-life financial scandals have a new must-watch on the horizon. The documentary series 'The Real Wolf of Wall Street,' which delves deep into the tumultuous career of Jordan Belfort, the notorious broker, is expanding its global reach. After its initial run on Paramount+, the series has been picked up by the BBC for the UK market and Stan for Australia, as reported by Deadline.com.

Produced by a collaborative effort including Maxine Productions (part of Sony Pictures Television), Bloomberg, and See It Now Studios, the documentary offers a comprehensive narrative of Belfort's meteoric rise and dramatic fall. It aims to peel back the layers of myth surrounding the man portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 blockbuster 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' which itself was released through Paramount Pictures.

What sets 'The Real Wolf of Wall Street' apart is its commitment to uncovering the full truth. The series leverages a wealth of unreleased footage, thousands of internal FBI documents, and an array of archival interviews. Crucially, it features insights from individuals who were intimately involved in Belfort's life and empire, including his former wife, Nadine – the inspiration for Margot Robbie's character in the feature film – and former employee Donna Schlessinger. These firsthand accounts promise to add significant depth and authenticity to the narrative.

The documentary meticulously charts Belfort's journey from leading the high-flying Stratton Oakmont brokerage in the 1990s to his eventual downfall. His story, marked by charges of fraud and stock market manipulation, led to a 22-month prison sentence. Following his incarceration, Belfort became an FBI informant, providing crucial evidence against others involved in his illicit schemes.

Hat Trick International, which launched the series at MIPCOM Cannes, is handling the global sales. Sarah Tong, Director of Sales at HTI, emphasized the series' unique appeal. "We all love a great behind-the-scenes story, and The Wolf of Wall Street was such a huge cultural hit that we think we all feel we know this story," Tong stated. She added that the documentary offers "something completely different: The real people who were there, telling us for the first time what actually happened."

Tong also highlighted the series' compelling nature, asserting that "It's every bit as fascinating, outrageous and compelling as the movie." The strong interest from international buyers suggests that audiences worldwide are eager to discover the intricate details and true consequences of Belfort's extraordinary life beyond the cinematic adaptation.
