Fans eager for new material from Quentin Tarantino will get a taste of his distinctive storytelling this November, as The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth receives a two-week limited run in select IMAX cinemas starting November 25, 2026. This theatrical release precedes its worldwide streaming premiere on Netflix on December 23, 2026, as reported by ScreenRant.
The decision for Tarantino to pen the screenplay rather than direct stems from his well-known intention to cap his directorial career at ten feature films. Having helmed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as his ninth, he reportedly wished for his final project to not be a sequel or a revisit of previous ground. This opened the door for David Fincher, a director known for his meticulous craftsmanship and dark psychological thrillers, to take the reins. Fincher's extensive history with Brad Pitt, including collaborations on Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, alongside his established relationship with Netflix through projects like House of Cards and Mindhunter, makes him a fitting choice for this high-profile endeavor.
Set in 1977, approximately eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the film finds Cliff Booth in a new chapter of his life. No longer a full-time stuntman, Booth now juggles odd jobs as a bartender and cinema projectionist. However, his true calling emerges in the shadows of the studio system, where he operates as a fixer, handling the illicit affairs of Hollywood's elite – from blackmail and extortion to murder. A surprise screening of the film's opening minutes at AFI Fest offered a blunt explanation for Cliff's departure from Rick Dalton's side: "Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore," Cliff candidly states in the footage. It remains unconfirmed whether Leonardo DiCaprio will return as Rick Dalton.
While DiCaprio's presence is uncertain, the film boasts a robust ensemble cast. Timothy Olyphant reprises his role as James Stacy. New additions include Peter Weller as Cliff's father and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Roderick ‘Hot Rod’ Harrison, a Blaxploitation star with whom Booth crosses paths. Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian round out the principal cast. Plot specifics beyond the setting and Cliff's new profession are largely under wraps, with promotional materials focusing on establishing the film's atmosphere.
Adding another layer to this narrative expansion, Tarantino will also release a companion novel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, on December 8, 2026, offering further insight into the character's world.
