According to a report from Deadline, the half-hour family comedy has received a six-episode greenlight from AMC and its streaming counterpart, AMC+. Production is slated to begin at Warner Bros. Studios, notably on the iconic stage where the hit sitcom Friends was filmed, with a target launch date in 2027.

Happy Jack will feature Charlie Sheen as the titular character, Jack, a charming but perpetually irresponsible individual. His character's two daughters, Kate and Sam, are central to the story, though their grandfather – played by Martin Sheen – is credited with their upbringing more than Jack himself. Kate is depicted as the responsible force managing Jack's company and keeping him grounded, while Sam embodies a wilder, free-spirited nature, much like her father.

The series' central conflict ignites when Sam introduces her new boyfriend, Paul, to the family. Paul, a former investment banker who has embraced a 'van life' guru lifestyle, shockingly turns out to be the same age as Jack. This revelation forces Jack to confront his own life choices and decide whether to continue his self-serving ways or finally step up and become a meaningful part of his daughters' lives.

This project is particularly noteworthy for AMC, a network primarily known for its critically acclaimed dramas and dramedies like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Happy Jack represents a deliberate expansion into the traditional half-hour comedy space, a genre AMC has largely steered clear of in the past. Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the new venture. "What a thrill to welcome Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen to AMC and AMC+, playing a father and son in this original family comedy, Happy Jack," McDermott stated, adding that this is "definitely something new for AMC, and we can’t wait to bring it to viewers next year."

The series is penned and executive produced by Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, a creative team with a history of working on successful comedies such as Two and a Half Men and The Ranch. They will also serve as showrunners. Charlie Sheen is also on board as an executive producer, alongside Todd Christopher, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang, with 20th Television also taking an executive producer credit.

This reunion marks a significant moment for the Sheens, who have famously portrayed a father-son dynamic in iconic projects like Wall Street and, more recently, the FX sitcom Anger Management which premiered in 2012. Charlie Sheen shared his excitement about his return to television: "It’s no secret that it’s been a minute, and I’m thrilled to be going back on television in such a meaningful way in an equally wonderful show."
