During an appearance on the September 8 episode of “The McBride Rewind” podcast, Seth Green revealed that he was entirely out of the loop concerning the planned 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' revival. "I was not part of those talks," Green stated, indicating no contact was made for him to reprise his fan-favorite role as Oz.

However, Green was quick to confirm his enthusiasm for the character, expressing a desire to explore Oz's journey if a story were to be developed. "If they wrote an Oz story, I’d love to see where Oz is right now," he commented.

The ill-fated reboot, officially titled "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale," was slated for a March 2025 release on Hulu. Unfortunately, the project was canceled after only its pilot episode. The new iteration was set to introduce Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new slayer, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed to return as Buffy. The pilot also featured Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo, Ava Jean as Larkin, Sarah Bock as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as Mr. Burke.

Sarah Michelle Gellar herself addressed the cancellation in a video statement, sharing her disappointment. "I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale,’" Gellar said, thanking Chloé Zhao and reflecting on her renewed love for the character. "And this doesn’t change any of that, and I promise if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me."
