While rumors initially swirled about an anthology format, Shôgun Season 2 will indeed continue as a direct sequel, picking up the story a decade after the events of the first season. Key cast members are confirmed to return, including Cosmo Jarvis as the English navigator John Blackthorne and Hiroyuki Sanada as the formidable Lord Yoshii Toranaga.

Sanada, who also serves as a producer on the series, has been deeply involved in the program's development. He meticulously ensured that every element—from costumes and sets to combat choreography—authentically honored Japanese history. Little has been revealed about the specific plot of the new season, beyond its ten-year jump forward in time.
