Following the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Sabrina Carpenter is celebrating a triumphant win that places her firmly on the path to EGOT glory. The artist, already a two-time Grammy winner, earned an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for the ABC/Disney+ presentation of The Muppet Show.

Carpenter took to Instagram to express her pride, sharing, “Thank you ©televisionacad. So incredibly proud of the whole muppets crew on our Emmy wins!!!!! A lot of love and happiness and hard work and diva fights went into making this special.” Her candid remarks hint at the dedication and effort behind bringing the beloved Muppets to life in a new format.

This award-winning variety special holds further significance as it served as a backdoor pilot, with plans for it to potentially lead to a new Muppet Show television series. The original Muppet Show, a creation of Jim Henson, ran from 1976 to 1981, captivating audiences in over 100 countries and featuring an array of iconic guest stars including Elton John, Johnny Cash, and Diana Ross. All five seasons of the classic series are currently available for streaming on Disney+.

The special was a collaborative effort from 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey Pictures. Alex Timbers directed the special and also served as an executive producer. Other executive producers included Seth Rogen, Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee for Point Grey Pictures; David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, and Michael Steinbach for The Muppets Studio; and Carpenter herself, alongside Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel, and Eric Jacobson.
