M. Night Shyamalan helms the film, directing from his own screenplay, which stems from the collaborative story developed with Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and Theresa Park serve as producers, with Sparks taking on an executive producer role.

The genesis of this unusual pairing dates back years, as Sparks revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Shyamalan, then a largely unknown screenwriter, was one of the writers considered for a revision of The Notebook script. Decades later, their paths converged again, leading to a joint venture that intrigued both the romance novelist and the suspense filmmaker. This original story ultimately manifested as both the film Remain and a novel, which was released last October.

Sparks expressed his enthusiasm for the lead actors, praising Gyllenhaal and Dynevor's performances. "Jake was great! It was really magical the way that came on board," Sparks shared, noting the challenge of finding top-tier talent. He added that Dynevor was a standout among several contenders, stating, "She was terrific. They're both amazing performers and they both did great, great work."

Remain is slated for a Valentine's Day 2027 release, promising audiences a fresh take on the supernatural romance genre.
