Originally greenlit over two years ago, the return of The Day of the Jackal has been eagerly awaited. Collider reports that TV Insider recently revealed the comprehensive cast list for the upcoming season, which is currently in post-production.
The series, a modern reimagining of Frederick Forsyth's seminal 1971 novel and the subsequent 1973 political thriller film, garnered critical acclaim during its 10-episode first season in late 2024. Its intricate narrative, set against a backdrop of various European cities, follows a highly skilled assassin known only as the Jackal as he undertakes his most perilous mission yet, all while being relentlessly pursued by a brilliant British intelligence officer.
Eddie Redmayne will once again lead the ensemble as the Jackal. He's joined by several returning cast members, including Úrsula Corberó as his wife, Nuria; Charles Dance as the mysterious billionaire employer, Timothy Winthrop; and Eleanor Matsuura as Zina Jansone, the Jackal's liaison. Other familiar faces from Season 1 set to return are Lia Williams as MI-6 boss Isabel Kirby, Chukwudi Iwuji as agent Osita Halcrow, Sule Rimi as Paul Pullman, Ben Hall as MI-6 agent Damian Richardson, Jonjo O'Neill as Edward Carver, Adam James as Jeremy Whitelock, and Florisa Kamara as Jasmine Pullman.
The second season will also introduce a host of new talent to its already impressive roster. Notable additions include Weruche Opia, Pablo Schreiber, and Matt Bomer, all cast in undisclosed roles that promise to add new layers of intrigue. Pia Tjelta also joins the cast, marking her first English-language role.
Behind the scenes, there's a significant change with David Harrower stepping in as the lead writer for Season 2, taking over from series creator Ronan Bennett, who will continue to serve as an executive producer. This transition suggests a fresh narrative direction while maintaining the core vision of the show.
With a star-studded cast, a compelling premise, and a rich literary heritage, The Day of the Jackal's second season is poised to be a standout thriller when it debuts in 2027.
