Fans of Rebecca Yarros' wildly popular 'Fourth Wing' series can now put faces to the names of their beloved characters. Rising talents Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya are set to embody the lead roles of Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming TV series. While Amazon has not yet commented on the casting, the news comes from Variety, confirming the leads for the much-anticipated adaptation.

Esther McGregor takes on the role of Violet Sorrengail, a character whose life takes an unexpected turn when she's forced into the perilous world of dragon riders at Basgiath War College. McGregor is known for her work in Amazon's 'We Were Liars' and has also appeared in Disney+'s 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' and Freevee's 'High School.' She is also slated to star in the upcoming Amazon series 'Life Is Strange.'

Joining her as the formidable Xaden Riorson is Emilio Sakraya. The German-born actor brings a wealth of experience from both German and U.S. productions, with notable credits including 'Rhinegold,' 'Tribes of Europa,' and 'Warrior Nun.' Sakraya's recent projects include 'Those About to Die,' and he is set to feature in the third season of Netflix's 'One Piece.'

'Fourth Wing' is the first book in Yarros' 'The Empyrean' series, which exploded onto the scene in May 2023, quickly becoming a New York Times bestseller. The series plunges readers into a brutal military academy where the only rule is 'graduate or die.' Violet, a scholar by nature, is thrust into this dangerous world by her mother, a high-ranking general, and must contend with deadly trials, political intrigue, and the inherent dangers of bonding with a dragon.

The success of 'Fourth Wing' led to swift sequels, including 'Iron Flame' in November 2023 and the forthcoming 'Onyx Storm' in January 2025. A novella, 'Threshing Day,' also expanded the universe in September. The television series was ordered by Amazon in May, with Meredith Averill ('Anne With an E') serving as showrunner and executive producer. The project boasts a robust production team, including Kilter Films (Lisa Joy, Jonathan Nolan, Athena Wickham) – with Lisa Joy also directing the pilot – Outlier Society (Michael B. Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo), and Premeditated Productions (Liz Pelletier, Sherryl Clark) as executive producers. With its leads now in place, the adaptation moves a significant step closer to bringing Yarros' vivid world to the screen.
