The much-anticipated sequel garnered an impressive $31.2 million globally, a testament to Rajinikanth's enduring appeal and the widespread anticipation for his projects. This formidable performance placed it just behind Paramount's "Street Fighter," which led the weekend with $51.1 million, and ahead of other international contenders like Sony’s "Resident Evil" ($22.6 million).

"Jailer 2" debuted in India on October 15, swiftly accumulating an estimated INR224 crore (approximately $23.5 million) during its extended four-day opening. This remarkable start marks the third-highest four-day gross on record for a Tamil-language film, nearly matching the performance of another Rajinikanth vehicle, "Coolie," which earned INR224.25 crore. The film saw its collections dip slightly on Friday after a strong $7 million opening on Thursday, but rebounded robustly through the weekend, culminating in a $6.5 million take on Sunday.

The film's domestic success was heavily concentrated in Tamil Nadu, the heartland of the Tamil film industry, which contributed a substantial $8.4 million. Neighboring southern Indian states such as Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana also played a significant role in its overall box office tally.

Beyond India, "Jailer 2" also made a strong showing in North America, where Shloka Entertainments handled distribution. Over the Friday-to-Sunday period, the film grossed $3.2 million, debuting at No. 9 on the territory's charts. Its total North American earnings have now reached $5.2 million, with Shloka reporting an impressive $2 million on its opening day alone.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also helmed the original, "Jailer 2" sees Rajinikanth reprise his role as "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian, a retired prison warden drawn back into a world of violence to protect his family from an idol smuggler. Returning cast members include Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa. The sequel introduces new faces to the franchise, with Tamil actor S.J. Suryah as Bodhi Kalpak and Bollywood star Vidya Balan as Kaantha. Veteran actors Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu also join the ensemble. Both films were produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, with Anirudh Ravichander once again composing the music.

A notable highlight of "Jailer 2" is its star-studded cameos, drawing talent from various Indian language industries. Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal and Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar, who both appeared in the first film, return as Mathew and Narasimha, respectively. Bollywood veteran Jackie Shroff portrays Kamdev, while Hrithik Roshan makes an appearance as Roddy, marking a reunion with Rajinikanth 40 years after their collaboration in the 1986 Hindi film "Bhagwan Dada," where Roshan featured as a child.
