For years, the name 'Reacher' has been synonymous with its titular powerhouse, Jack Reacher, a formidable one-man army played by Alan Ritchson. However, the landscape of Prime Video's hit franchise is rapidly evolving. Its first official spin-off, 'Neagley,' which premiered on September 16 directly after the 'Reacher' Season 4 finale, has not only found its footing but has now surpassed the original series in viewership.
According to Nielsen's U.S. streaming rankings for the week of September 28 through October 4, 'Neagley' garnered an impressive 661 million minutes watched. In contrast, 'Reacher' recorded 513 million minutes during the same period, as reported by Collider. This data solidifies 'Neagley's' ascent, demonstrating a strong audience appetite for stories centered around Maria Sten's character, Frances Neagley, Reacher's former protégé from the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit.
Sten has been an integral part of the 'Reacher' series since its inaugural season, portraying Neagley as a sharp, capable, and fiercely loyal ally. Her new standalone series sees the character, now a private investigator in Chicago, drawn into a complex case following the suspicious death of a close friend. This narrative shift allows viewers a much deeper exploration of Neagley beyond her established connection to Jack Reacher.
Maria Sten expressed her enthusiasm for this expanded role, acknowledging both the excitement and the responsibility that comes with it. "I’m so excited about the world getting to know Neagley a little bit better," Sten shared. "I’m very grateful for the opportunity to just dive deeper into this character, you know? I’ve lived with her for quite a while now and I’m so thrilled to just get to sort of scratch the surface a little bit further compared to what we’ve seen so far."
She also touched upon the inherent pressure of leading a franchise derived from such a popular source: "It’s very exciting to be given this opportunity, but of course there’s also a lot of pressure. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well and to carry on the legacy in a way that, you know, pays homage to Reacher and, of course, the books and the characters that Lee Child created.”
The expansion of the 'Reacher' universe isn't limited to television. During San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Neagley would also be the focus of a spin-off novel, marking the first time a book in the Jack Reacher universe will not primarily feature Jack Reacher himself. Titled Zero Margin, the novel is a collaboration between original author Lee Child and Yasmin Angoe, slated for release in March 2027. Meanwhile, the next 'Reacher' novel, Chain Reaction, penned by Lee Child and his brother Andrew Child, is set for release imminently.
All episodes of 'Neagley' are currently available for streaming on Prime Video, offering fans a chance to witness the character's breakout success firsthand.
