The news of Moonlight's special re-release was unveiled by director and co-writer Barry Jenkins himself during a recent screening at the Telluride Film Festival. Fans can mark their calendars for October 2, when the newly restored version of the film will begin its theatrical run.

Moonlight captivated audiences and critics alike with its intimate portrayal of a young African-American man navigating his identity and sexuality through the different stages of his life—childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood. The powerful narrative was brought to the screen by producers including Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment.

Adding to the anniversary celebration, the re-release will feature an exclusive conversation. This special segment includes director Barry Jenkins, Oscar-nominated composer Nicholas Britell, and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, offering unique insights into the making and lasting impact of the film.

Originally premiering in 2016, Moonlight quickly became a cinematic landmark. It famously triumphed at the Academy Awards, securing the coveted Best Picture Oscar, along with Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney.

The film's Best Picture win is also remembered for one of the most memorable moments in Oscar history. During the 2017 ceremony, a mix-up involving PwC accountants led to La La Land being mistakenly announced as the winner. It was La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz who, with grace and sportsmanship, corrected the error on stage, confirming Moonlight as the rightful recipient.

Tickets for the 10th-anniversary re-release of Moonlight will go on sale starting September 9. A limited edition anniversary art print will also be available for fans to commemorate this special occasion.

During its initial run, Moonlight achieved significant commercial success, grossing $27.8 million at the domestic box office and nearly $67 million worldwide, solidifying its place as both a critical and financial triumph.
