Noah Reid is set to join the burgeoning 'Fire Country' and 'Sheriff Country' universe, potentially leading a new medical drama. The 'Schitt's Creek' alum has been cast in a guest role for the second season of CBS's 'Sheriff Country,' playing Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw. This guest spot comes with a significant series regular option, positioning Reid as the lead for the 'Sheriff Country' medical drama spinoff, currently in development at the network and informally known as 'Edge Med.' The untitled offshoot will follow a medical team operating in Edgewater, California.

This strategy mirrors the launch of 'Sheriff Country' itself, which saw Morena Baccarin's Sheriff Mickey Fox first introduced as a guest star on the flagship series 'Fire Country' before her own spinoff was greenlit.

Reid's character, Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw, is depicted as the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital, or “Edge Med.” Hud is charming and quick-witted, yet possesses a rough-around-the-edges demeanor. Hailing from the outlaw region known as Deadwater, he is the proud son of convicted felons but refused to use his family's illicit drug money to fund his medical education. A passionate doctor who lives by his oath to “first do no harm,” Hud is nonetheless not one to shy away from a bar fight. He is deeply devoted to his community but remains a restless soul.

Hud’s background, with its ties to a criminal past, resonates with 'Sheriff Country's' Mickey Fox, whose father Wes is an ex-con and illegal marijuana grower. Reid secured the role after an extensive casting search involving numerous offers and readings.

The untitled spinoff is executive produced by Matt Lopez, Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, and JBTV’s Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed, and comes from CBS Studios.

Season 2 of 'Sheriff Country' is scheduled to premiere on CBS on October 9.

This wouldn't be the first time the Canadian-American actor-musician has fronted an American series; he previously starred as the title character in the 2015 ABC Family (now Freeform) comedy 'Kevin From Work.' Reid is widely recognized for his portrayal of Patrick on 'Schitt’s Creek,' a role that earned him a Comedy Ensemble SAG Award alongside his castmates and a Canadian Screen Award. More recently, he was a series regular opposite Josh Brolin and Imogen Poots in Prime Video’s metaphysical Western drama 'Outer Range.' He also had an arc on 'Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat,' part of AMC’s 'Interview with the Vampire' franchise. Reid's upcoming projects include the Bell/Crave series 'Yaga,' co-starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Hudson Williams, and Clark Backo, which will be available in the U.S. via AMC+.
