Die Ankündigung, die ursprünglich von The Hollywood Reporter gemeldet wurde, erfolgte zusammen mit der vollständigen Enthüllung der Besetzungsfotos der Serie auf dem Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England. Dolly Alderton, bekannt für ihre Arbeit an „Everything I Know About Love“ und „Ghosts“, ist als Autorin der Serie verantwortlich und hat die Aufgabe, den beständigen Roman von 1813 einer neuen Generation näherzubringen und gleichzeitig langjährige Fans zufriedenzustellen.
Die Serie kann mit einer beeindruckenden Riege an Talenten aufwarten. Oscar-Preisträgerin Olivia Colman schlüpft in die Rolle der gestrengen Mrs. Bennet, während Rufus Sewell die Rolle des Mr. Bennet übernimmt. Emma Corrin, Golden-Globe-Gewinnerin, wird die schlagfertige Protagonistin Elizabeth Bennet verkörpern, während Jack Lowden den rätselhaften Mr. Darcy darstellen wird. Louis Partridge stößt als der berüchtigte Mr. Wickham dazu und Daryl McCormack wird als charmanter Mr. Bingley auftreten.
Die Bennet-Familie wird komplettiert durch Freya Mavor als Jane, Rhea Norwood als Lydia, Hopey Parish als Mary und Hollie Avery als Kitty. Die Besetzung umfasst außerdem Jamie Demetriou als Mr. Collins, Siena Kelly als Caroline Bingley und Fiona Shaw als die imposante Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Netflix hat den Fans versichert, dass diese Adaption „eng am Roman von 1813 bleiben“ wird und dessen „zeitlose Sozialkommentare, messerscharfen Witz und unvergessliche Liebesgeschichte“ bewahrt. Allerdings wies die Plattform auch darauf hin, dass die Serie „einige durchdachte kreative Wendungen nehmen“ wird, was auf eine frische Perspektive auf die klassische Erzählung hindeutet.
Autorin Dolly Alderton äußerte sich Anfang des Jahres, als der Trailer veröffentlicht wurde, begeistert über das Projekt. „Einmal in einer Generation bekommt eine Gruppe von Menschen die Gelegenheit, diese wundervolle Geschichte neu zu erzählen“, bemerkte Alderton. Sie fügte hinzu, dass „Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice die Blaupause für romantische Komödien ist.“
Dieses neue Pride and Prejudice erscheint in einem Jahr, das bereits reich an Inhalten aus der Regency-Ära ist, und folgt dicht auf andere bemerkenswerte Adaptionen. Netflix zielt darauf ab, dass die Serie „zur Yearn-Aissance beiträgt“, indem sie nicht nur bestehende Fans anspricht, sondern auch neuen Zuschauern Austens zeitlose Geschichte über Liebe, Klasse und gesellschaftliche Erwartungen näherbringt.
