The announcement, initially reported by The Hollywood Reporter, came alongside a full unveiling of the series' cast photos at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England. Dolly Alderton, known for her work on 'Everything I Know About Love' and 'Ghosts', is at the helm as the series writer, tasked with bringing the enduring 1813 novel to a new generation while satisfying long-time devotees.
The series boasts an impressive roster of talent. Academy Award winner Olivia Colman steps into the shoes of the formidable Mrs. Bennet, with Rufus Sewell taking on the role of Mr. Bennet. Emma Corrin, a Golden Globe winner, will portray the quick-witted protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, while Jack Lowden is set to embody the enigmatic Mr. Darcy. Louis Partridge joins as the notorious Mr. Wickham, and Daryl McCormack will appear as the charming Mr. Bingley.
Rounding out the Bennet family, Freya Mavor plays Jane, Rhea Norwood is Lydia, Hopey Parish is Mary, and Hollie Avery takes on Kitty. The cast also features Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw as the imposing Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Netflix has assured fans that this adaptation will "hew closely to the 1813 novel," preserving its "ever-relevant social commentary, razor-sharp wit, and indelible love story." However, the platform also noted that the series will "take some thoughtful creative turns," suggesting a fresh perspective on the classic narrative.
Writer Dolly Alderton expressed her enthusiasm for the project earlier this year when the trailer was released. "Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story," Alderton remarked. She added that "Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy."
This new Pride and Prejudice arrives in a year already rich with Regency-era content, following closely on the heels of other notable adaptations. Netflix aims for the series to "join the yearn-aissance" by not only appealing to existing fans but also introducing Austen's timeless tale of love, class, and societal expectations to new viewers.
