The upcoming Amazon series, Settling, promises a fresh take on the romantic comedy, exploring the complexities of commitment with a unique premise. Justine Lupe will star as Jessy, a character who has always viewed commitment as a limitation. Her counterpart, Max, finds the idea of commitment overwhelming. The story takes an unexpected turn when Jessy discovers she is experiencing early-onset menopause, while Max confronts late-onset isolation panic. These life-altering circumstances unexpectedly bring the two together, forcing them to confront their fears and consider a 'forever' commitment.

At its core, Settling is an opposites-attract comedy that poses a poignant question: can a relationship truly work simply because the individuals involved can't afford for it not to? This intriguing premise, penned by Briana Pozner, seeks to blend humor with the very real anxieties and challenges of modern relationships.

Justine Lupe's casting as Jessy is a significant draw for the series. Her recent performance as Willa Ferreya in HBO's critically acclaimed drama Succession garnered widespread recognition, showcasing her range and comedic timing. More recently, she earned a Critics Choice nomination for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Morgan in Netflix's Nobody Wants This. Her past work also includes a recurring role in Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, making her a familiar face to streaming audiences.

Directing duties for Settling will be handled by Will Gluck, a seasoned filmmaker with a strong track record in the romantic comedy genre. Gluck recently directed and produced Sony Pictures' box office hit Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, which reignited interest in theatrical rom-coms. His previous directing credits include beloved films like Easy A and Friends With Benefits. Gluck's involvement suggests a sharp, witty, and commercially appealing tone for the new series.

Briana Pozner and Colin Lupe are credited as the creators of Settling. Pozner, a writer and director, is a Black List x Women in Film Fellow whose work has appeared in publications like the New York Times, including her widely read 2022 Modern Love essay, “Why Is My Husband Marrying Her?” She also co-created and directed the Adult Swim micro-short series The Non-Essentials alongside Justine Lupe, Colin Lupe, and Josh Duvendeck. Both Pozner and Justine Lupe will serve as executive producers on Settling, alongside Adam Londy for Michael Eisner’s Tornante, Will Gluck and Madison Jones for Olive Bridge, Colin Lupe, and Leigh Kittay. Tornante and Olive Bridge partnered to bring the pilot script to Amazon for development, indicating strong industry backing for the project.
