Originally set for December 8, 2027, StudioCanal has announced that Johnny will now premiere on June 30, 2027. This earlier arrival means audiences can immerse themselves in the "Idol des Jeunes"'s tumultuous and iconic career five months ahead of schedule. The film aims to chronicle the life of Jean-Philippe Smet, better known as Johnny Hallyday, from his humble beginnings to his monumental 50th birthday concerts at Parc des Princes in 1993. The narrative will span three pivotal decades, exploring key relationships and career milestones that defined the rock star's persona and artistry.

The 1960s segment will delve into his passionate relationship with singer Sylvie Vartan, a pairing that captivated France. The 1970s will focus on the era of his "Johnny Circus" and his intense connection with Canadian-American singer Nanette Workman. Finally, the 1980s will highlight his artistic renaissance, buoyed by his collaborations with acclaimed songwriter Michel Berger and his relationship with actress Nathalie Baye.

Benjamin Voisin, known for his roles in Summer of 85 and Lost Illusions, takes on the challenging role of Hallyday. He was cast after an earlier announcement had Raphaël Quenard in contention for the lead.
