The release of the sequel to Kaamelott – Deuxième Volet : Partie 1, titled Kaamelott – Deuxième Volet : Partie 2 (yes, LOL), has been postponed... for a long time.
Kaamelott : Premier Volet was released in theaters in 2021. With 2.6 million admissions and a rather positive reception from both the public and critics (3.4/5 and 3.3/5 on Allociné), it was a significant victory after years of struggle. Alexandre Astier, the creator of this burlesque version of the King Arthur legend, who also serves as director, screenwriter, producer, composer, editor, and actor on the films, then raised his ambitions and announced the arrival of a Kaamelott : Deuxième Volet but split into two parts. Unfortunately, things became complicated.
KV2 Premiere Partie struggled at the box office upon its release in November 2025 (barely over 1 million admissions) and received a much colder reception (2.3/5 press rating on Allociné, 2.9/5 from viewers). The sequel was not abandoned, however, and its release was previously set for November 11, 2026. However, with only two months to go, concerns grew over the complete lack of news. This was understandable, as SND has announced pushing back the film's release by several months.
It was in a press release and on its social media channels that SND, the film's distributor (affiliated with M6), revealed that Kaamelott – Deuxième Volet : Partie 2 (seriously, these titles are impossible) would no longer be released in 2026. Ultimately, the third installment of Alexandre Astier's trilogy is expected to hit theaters on March 10, 2027. The announcement comes late, as the film was supposed to be released almost exactly two months from now, and frankly, it is both reassuring and concerning regarding the project's health.
On one hand, it is rather sensible for SND to refuse to stick to a release date fixed months in advance just to meet deadlines. It would have been counterproductive for the film and Alexandre Astier to release a movie in haste and adhere to a schedule that didn't align with his artistic desires. However, on the other hand, it is also a huge admission of failure for the French filmmaker, whose original goal was to release Partie 1 and Partie 2 of KV2 only a few months apart.
How can one believe for a moment that Astier knows exactly where to go with the end of his trilogy when he seems to be struggling so much to bring any part of it to fruition? After all, it took nearly four years to discover KV2 : Partie 1 after the release of KV1. And even if all this remains very theoretical, one can imagine that it was this gap between the release of the two installments that cost the sequel a portion of its audience, unable to remobilize its fans to support the project, despite its laudable ambition in the French industry.
A lack of confidence is therefore palpable, even if SND tries, as best it can, to hide it. As reported by Boxoffice Pro, Christophe Courtois, distribution director at SND, explained this postponement as a way to find "another window of opportunity, with less competition" for the film. It is true that the upcoming weeks were busy for the French distributor, with the releases of the ambitious Le Fantôme de l’opéra (October 28), the nuclear thriller Jupiter (November 18), and James Gray's gangster film Paper Tiger (November 25).
Honestly, competition in the fantasy genre (French or international) seemed rather weak, despite the releases of Godzilla Minus Zero and the new Hunger Games around the same period, but no matter. SND has therefore decided to **postpone Kaamelott – Deuxième Volet : Partie 2 to March 10, 2027. A period when competition will, a priori, be quite scarce, as it is every year, but where it could benefit from a potential boost: the Spring Cinema event**. That's all we can wish for it. Verdict in six months.
