This marks a significant development for the 'Stargate' universe, which has seen multiple iterations since its 1994 big-screen debut. Schaeffer's involvement comes under her expansive overall deal with Amazon MGM, a partnership announced earlier this year. Industry sources indicate that a writers' room is expected to convene in the near future, signaling that the project is moving swiftly into active development. Joining Schaeffer as executive producers are Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, representing Safehouse Pictures.

Schaeffer's pedigree in crafting compelling genre narratives makes her a fitting choice for reviving such a storied sci-fi property. She is widely acclaimed for her work on Marvel Studios' 'WandaVision,' the groundbreaking series that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe's foray into Disney+ original programming. 'WandaVision' garnered critical praise and 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, lauded for its innovative storytelling and character depth. Following this success, Schaeffer went on to create 'Agatha All Along,' a spin-off from 'WandaVision' centered on Kathryn Hahn's fan-favorite character, where she served as showrunner, writer, executive producer, and director. Her earlier credits also include screenplays for Disney's 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' and the 2019 comedy 'The Hustle.'

For Amazon, this new initiative represents a renewed effort to bring 'Stargate' back to the small screen. Reports previously circulated about another 'Stargate' TV project under Martin Gero, but that endeavor ultimately did not proceed. The franchise itself boasts a rich history, beginning with the original film starring James Spader and Kurt Russell. This was followed by the highly successful 'Stargate SG-1,' which ran for an impressive 10 seasons, and its spin-off 'Stargate Atlantis,' which added five more seasons to the saga between 2004 and 2008. The enduring popularity of the 'Stargate' universe, coupled with Schaeffer's proven ability to reinvent and expand established worlds, positions this new series as one of Amazon's most anticipated genre projects.
