Fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the breakout anime series that brought the world of CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 to life, have a new reason to celebrate. A fresh trailer has been released for the next chapter, tentatively titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, hinting at the continued visual chaos and high-octane action that defined its predecessor.
Originally conceived as a spin-off from the sprawling Cyberpunk 2077 video game, Edgerunners quickly carved out its own identity on Netflix. Its success can largely be attributed to the visionary work of Studio Trigger, renowned for its distinctive, frenetic animation style seen in hits like Kill la Kill and Promare. The studio's ability to render Night City as an apocalyptic playground, filled with vibrant yet brutal detail, was a key factor in the first season's widespread acclaim.
While officially described as an "independent sequel" by EcranLarge, Edgerunners 2 appears to function very much like a second season, maintaining the distinct graphic style and character design. The core creative team sees Rafał Jaki returning as creator, with Bartosz Sztybor once again heading the scenario department. A notable change behind the virtual camera is the departure of Hiroyuki Imaishi from the general director role, with Kai Ikarashi, a key animator on Promare, stepping in to take the helm.
As expected for a new chapter, the series introduces an entirely new roster of characters, a necessity given the fate of many from the original run. Viewers will follow Weak, described as a former cyberpunk legend struggling to adapt, and D, a nomad driven by a quest for vengeance in a world dominated by ruthless mega-corporations. Additional characters such as Roman, Talia, Avida, Sal, Jessie, Kitano, Richard, and Kiril are also slated to appear, promising a diverse and colorful ensemble.
The newly released trailer is a testament to Studio Trigger's signature visual frenzy, set to an exclusive trance remix by Marlon Hoffstadt. It showcases glimpses of cybernetic body horror and explosive confrontations, assuring fans that the series will deliver on its promise of intense spectacle. With voice talents including Momoka Terasawa, Akari Kitō, Kentaro Tone, and Koki Uchiyama, the series is set to premiere on Netflix on October 20, 2026, inviting audiences back into the volatile heart of Night City.
