According to a report from Deadline, the overall global box office was notably soft, with Imax, a key exhibitor, only pulling in $6 million worldwide from a mix of films. This downturn was less about Halloween affecting moviegoing habits globally – which varies significantly by region – and more about the absence of new, wide-release blockbusters.
Leading the quieter weekend was Warner Bros./DC's 'Clayface,' which secured an additional $22.8 million worldwide. This brings its running global total to $83 million, a solid return against its $44 million production budget. The film's domestic gross stands at $44.1 million, with international markets contributing $38.9 million. Key international territories for 'Clayface' include the UK ($6.1 million), Australia ($2.5 million), Mexico ($2.5 million), and France ($2.4 million).
Meanwhile, Sony/Constantin's 'Resident Evil' franchise entry continues to prove its resilience, amassing a massive global cume of $400 million. This places it well ahead of horror benchmarks like 'Sinners' ($371.6 million) and Zach Cregger’s 'Weapons' ($270 million). The film is now just $600,000 shy of surpassing A24’s highest-grossing movie ever, 'Backrooms' ($400.6 million), and is closing in on the lifetime gross of 1973’s 'The Exorcist' ($430 million). Its seventh weekend added $10 million globally, with $7.5 million coming from international markets. 'Resident Evil' is notably the third highest-grossing horror film of all time in China and the biggest installment globally for its franchise.
Universal/Blumhouse Atomic Monster's horror film, 'Other Mommy,' also maintained a strong presence, adding $8.4 million in its fourth global weekend for a total of $107.4 million worldwide. The film showed particularly strong performance in Germany, opening at No. 2, and outperformed several horror comps including 'Smile' and 'The Black Phone' in various European markets.
Laika's animated feature, 'Wildwood,' had a successful second global frame, earning $12.3 million. Its running cume now stands at $35.8 million, significantly outperforming the studio's previous film, 'Missing Link' ($26.5 million). 'Wildwood' expanded into 36 new international territories, now playing in 47 countries, and saw strong debuts, including No. 1 in Sweden and No. 2 in Brazil.
Black Bear also celebrated a strong UK opening for 'Wicker,' starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, which debuted at No. 1 with $2.2 million (or $2.3 million including previews). This performance surpassed the UK bows of films like 'Poor Things' and 'The Shape of Water.' The film's global gross currently sits at $15.5 million against a $10 million production budget.
Finally, Universal’s 'The Odyssey,' which Deadline identifies as Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film and Universal’s overall, continues its historic run, reaching $1.799 billion worldwide. It has now achieved Universal’s biggest international cume of all time at $1.17 billion, surpassing 'Furious 7.' While its domestic run concluded at $625.5 million, just shy of 'Jurassic World's' Universal record in North America, 'The Odyssey' continues to draw audiences globally, with recent weekend contributions from China, Belgium, Germany, and Japan.
