Even a stellar performance by Hollywood veteran Nicolas Cage and a collection of positive reviews couldn't save this superhero series. Amazon's Prime Video has pulled the plug on 'Spider-Noir' after its inaugural season, citing insufficient viewership as the reason.
The cancellation announcement, which coincided with the series' impressive five-Emmy haul at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, has sparked considerable confusion among its dedicated fanbase.
Nicolas Cage's Classy Reaction
Speaking to Deadline, lead actor Nicolas Cage, who earned an Oscar for his role in the 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas, shared a remarkably positive perspective on the show's short run. For his first leading role in a television series, Cage expressed contentment, feeling that the story of the first season stands complete on its own.
"For me, Season 1 is perfect, and I was able to say everything I had to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art version of Spider-Man. Always higher, always further, always deeper," he concluded in a brief statement.
'Spider-Noir,' a spin-off from the acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (known in France as Spider-Man: New Generation), plunges viewers into 1930s New York, offering a unique take on the web-slinger's mythos.
An Emmy-Winning Series

The series, available in both color and black-and-white versions, pays homage to classic Hollywood film noir, delivering a more mature and realistic portrayal of Spider-Man. Nicolas Cage, who previously voiced the character in the animated film, reprised his role in this live-action adaptation.
Among its five wins from eleven nominations, 'Spider-Noir' was notably recognized for Best Cinematography and Outstanding Main Title Design. Only 'Widow's Bay' and 'DTF St. Louis' garnered more awards at the recent ceremony, with eight and six statuettes, respectively.
