Courteney Cox, a veteran of the Scream franchise for three decades, is stepping back into the director's chair for her sophomore feature, Evil Genius. But it seems her directorial ambitions extend to the horror series that made her a household name.

While discussing her true-crime film Evil Genius at the Deadline Studio, the Golden Globe nominee openly shared her interest in directing an upcoming Scream installment. "I think I should, honestly. Nobody knows more about that movie than I do," Cox stated, underscoring her deep connection to the series. She added, "I mean, and the creator, and Wes Craven, and the writers, and everybody who’s been in it. But I think it’d be great and fun and a good publicity thing. Get on it."

Cox most recently reprised her role as intrepid reporter Gale Weathers in Scream 7, where she was reunited with Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. Despite receiving a 30% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the franchise's lowest-scoring entry, this Kevin Williamson-helmed installment achieved significant box office success, grossing nearly $208 million globally and becoming the highest-grossing sequel in the series.

Looking ahead, Spyglass has already enlisted the sister duo Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to pen the script for the upcoming eighth Scream film.

Meanwhile, Cox is actively promoting Evil Genius, a true-crime narrative based on the infamous "pizza bomber" case. The film delves into the human elements of deception, desperation, and the blurred lines between victim and villain. Directed by Cox from a script by Courtenay Miles, Evil Genius features a notable cast including Patricia Arquette, David Harbour, and Tom McCarthy.
