Yaga is the brainchild of creator Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer and showrunner. The series expands upon Sandler’s original play, transforming the ancient Slavic folklore figure of Baba Yaga into a modern narrative. Sandler expressed her vision for the show, stating, "reclaiming the wicked witch and reshaping her as an incendiary feminist antihero for our time." She further described the storytelling as "propulsive, accessible, dark, funny and unapologetically bold." This unique blend of elements promises a fresh take on the supernatural mystery genre, moving beyond traditional fairy tale interpretations.

The eight-episode, half-hour drama recently made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, garnering early attention. Beyond its central figures, the cast features a strong ensemble including Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, and Hiro Kanagawa, alongside Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, and Sam Krochmal.
