A star-studded roster of actors is joining the cast of Ministry of Time, the upcoming BBC drama produced by A24. As reported by Deadline, Adeel Akhtar, known for his role in Sherwood, and Ciarán Hinds, acclaimed for Belfast, are prominent among the new additions. They are joined by Hong Chau (The Whale), Tamara Lawrance (Get Millie Black), Emily Fairn (The Responder), Josh Finan (Say Nothing), Aisling Loftus (Sherwood), Tawfeek Barhom (Cairo Conspiracy), Nahuel Pérez Biscayart (120 Beats Per Minute), and Hélène Patarot (Paris, Je T’aime).

This extensive casting announcement builds upon the previously revealed leads, Aoife Hinds and Billy Howle, who are set to portray Sophy and Graham, respectively. The six-part series is an adaptation of Kaliane Bradley's novel of the same name, with Alice Birch (Normal People) spearheading the script adaptation and Aneil Karia (Top Boy) serving as lead director.

The narrative centers on the evolving professional relationship between Sophy and Graham. Their connection blossoms into an intense, forbidden romance, exploring the profound power of love across different centuries. However, their journey is complicated by the increasingly sinister true intentions of the mysterious Ministry, which places them in grave danger.

The newly announced actors will fill key roles that drive the unfolding drama. Adeel Akhtar steps into the shoes of Quentin Ackerly, Sophy’s 'handler' within The Ministry. Ciarán Hinds will portray Peter, Sophy’s father, while Hélène Patarot takes on the role of Channary, Sophy’s mother, creating an interesting on-screen family dynamic with his real-life daughter, Aoife Hinds.

Hong Chau is cast as Adela, the Vice-Secretary of Expatriation, and Tamara Lawrance will play Simellia, a 'bridge' character working alongside Sophy. Emily Fairn is set to appear as Margaret Kemble, one of Commander Gore’s fellow 'expats,' while Josh Finan plays Captain Arthur Reginald-Smyth, and Aisling Loftus takes on the role of Anne Spencer. Tawfeek Barhom and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart round out the cast as the enigmatic Brigadier and Salese, respectively.

Filming for the series is currently underway across London and its surrounding areas. A24 is handling executive producing duties alongside Birch, Bradley, Karia, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Frances du Pille serves as producer, with A24 also retaining international distribution rights for the series, which is slated for BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
