While Stephen King's bibliography is arguably the most adapted in contemporary American cinema, none of his novels had been brought to the screen four times. That's about to change for Carrie, which saw Brian De Palma craft one of his masterpieces in 1976, was adapted into a TV movie in 2002, and received a critically panned theatrical version in 2013. Now, genre specialist Mike Flanagan, known for his work on Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, Life of Chuck, and The Haunting of Hill House, is preparing to unleash his vision as a series for Amazon Prime Video.

Following an initial teaser, the platform has now released a full-length trailer.

Carrie, the Vengeance of Vengeance

The core story is familiar: a bullied girl at school, an unexpected first period, a fanatical mother, and a prom night destined for disaster. However, Flanagan's version, parts of which have been previewed by the foreign press, is expected to be the least faithful to the novel. This is evident in the new trailer, which features many original scenes, such as a person falling from the sky. A notable change is the series' contemporary setting, addressing the modern issue of online harassment.

Furthermore, the titular character herself, having been sheltered by her mother throughout her childhood, arrives at high school eager to make friends, a desire that, predictably, will not be fulfilled. We are promised even more surprises.

Carrie is portrayed by Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky, Hunter Hunter), while her mother will be played by Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass). Amber Midthunder, star of Prey, takes on the role of Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo) appears as Principal Grayle, who is prominently featured in these initial glimpses. All eight episodes are scheduled to premiere on October 7 on Prime Video.
