Brendan Fraser, whose career has seen a remarkable resurgence culminating in an Academy Award for his performance in "The Whale," is embracing the sci-fi genre with his latest project, "Starman." In this new thriller, Fraser is cast as Tom Adams, a pioneering figure who spearheads a historic mission to Mars. However, the ambitious journey takes an unforeseen turn, leaving Adams stranded millions of miles from Earth. His mission quickly transforms into a perilous race against time, as he battles to survive and find a way back home.

"Starman" is written and directed by Josh Wakely, and promises a gripping narrative of isolation and resilience in the vastness of space. Joining Fraser in the cast is Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Daniels, known for his roles in "Dumb & Dumber," "The Newsroom," and "Godless." Daniels will portray Ed Watkins, Adams' long-time business partner and co-leader of the company they built together, adding another layer of complexity to the human drama unfolding against a cosmic backdrop.

The ensemble cast also features Aisling Bea, Claudia Karvan, Stephen Curry, and Ewen Leslie, rounding out a talented lineup for the project. Production for "Starman" commenced in June, with filming taking place across various picturesque locations in Australia, including Sydney, the Blue Mountains, and the state-of-the-art Disney Studios Australia in Moore Park, as reported by Variety.

While a release date for "Starman" has not yet been announced, Fraser's calendar remains full. He is currently filming "The Mummy 4," where he reunites with Rachel Weisz, a film anticipated to hit screens in October 2027. Additionally, Fraser is currently appearing in the World War II-era film "Pressure," in which he portrays General Eisenhower. This diverse slate of projects underscores Fraser's continued artistic momentum and his willingness to tackle a variety of challenging roles across different genres.
