Popcorn Wire has learned from Ecranlarge.com that Vertical has unveiled a second, more expansive trailer for Pendulum, introducing audiences to a disturbing narrative led by a strong ensemble cast. Mark Heyman, whose screenwriting credits include Darren Aronofsky's Oscar-winning Black Swan, steps behind the camera for the first time, bringing his distinctive flair for psychological tension to the horror genre.

The film centers on a couple, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor, who seek refuge at a remote New Age retreat following a significant trauma—hinted to be the loss of a child. What begins as a quest for healing quickly unravels into a nightmare, as the methods of the retreat's guru, played by veteran actress Jacki Weaver, veer into a sinister form of shamanism. The trailer suggests that the couple's attempt to mend their emotional wounds instead opens them up to an escalating sequence of terror.

The new footage deliberately maintains a veil of mystery, leaving viewers to ponder the true nature of the threats at hand. Is the horror purely psychological, perhaps induced by hallucinogenic substances, or does a genuine supernatural force lurk within the secluded community? Similarly, the intentions of the 'redneck' locals surrounding the retreat remain ambiguous: are they a malevolent cult with criminal designs, or do their unconventional beliefs merely clash violently with the protagonists' expectations, breeding fear and discord?

Pendulum leans heavily into its unsettling atmosphere, utilizing a visually striking, isolated setting to amplify the dread. The trailer showcases menacing forests, endless deserted roads, distorted corridors, and candlelit rooms, all contributing to a profoundly creepy ambiance. The action unfolds in a remote desert house in New Mexico, a location notoriously known for its isolation—a place, as the saying goes, "where no one can hear you scream."

Adding to the film's pedigree, Darren Aronofsky, with whom Heyman collaborated on Black Swan, serves as a producer, signaling a potentially intense and thought-provoking horror experience. The cast also features notable talents such as Jena Malone and Norman Reedus, further solidifying the film's promising lineup.

Pendulum is slated for release in the United States on January 1, 2027. A French distributor and release date have yet to be announced.
