The Marvel Cinematic Universe's 'Wonder Man' made waves earlier this year, earning critical acclaim as one of the franchise's strongest small-screen ventures. The series, which premiered in January, offers a meta-commentary on Hollywood and superhero filmmaking through the story of struggling actor Simon Williams, portrayed by Emmy-nominated Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Fittingly, the show featured numerous celebrity cameos, including a memorable, albeit brief, appearance by Ashley Greene.

Greene's role in the first episode saw her playing herself, co-starring with Simon Williams on the set of a fictional 'American Horror Story' season. Her character was slated for a gruesome death scene, but the sequence was ultimately cut when Simon's overzealous preparation caused production delays, leading to his removal from the show. This meta-fictional portrayal offered a glimpse into the chaotic world of television production, while also kickstarting Williams' journey towards becoming Wonder Man.

Speaking at FanX Salt Lake City alongside her former 'Twilight' co-star Jackson Rathbone, Greene candidly discussed the unusual experience, as reported by Collider. She admitted that playing herself, even a fictionalized version, felt particularly strange. "It's the weirdest thing I've ever done. I don't recommend it," Greene quipped, explaining that the usual barrier between actor and character was essentially nonexistent. "So it's just a weird thing to be like, 'How do I do that? How do I say that?' So, it was quite weird, but it was very fun."

Greene's inclusion in 'Wonder Man' was a true Hollywood tale of serendipity. She was not initially cast for the role. Instead, a casting director reached out last minute, explaining that another actor had dropped out. Greene recalled the urgent call: "Someone dropped out. Do you want to do this? Could you do it? I was like, 'Yeah, of course I do! Are you kidding me?'" This eleventh-hour call meant that even her 'Twilight' colleagues were unaware of her secret MCU debut, a testament to Marvel's infamous secrecy protocols.

Jackson Rathbone corroborated the surprise, describing his reaction to seeing Greene on screen. "I'm literally watching it with my wife, and she's like, 'Did you know?' And I was like, 'No!'" Rathbone also expressed his disappointment over Disney's decision to reverse its renewal for a second season, praising the series overall. He stated, "It's honestly one of my favorite Marvel shows they've ever done."

Ashley Greene's unexpected entry into the MCU canon, even for a fleeting moment, adds another intriguing layer to the 'Wonder Man' narrative. The full season of 'Wonder Man' is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
