As the cast of the upcoming X-Men film steadily takes shape, it offers insights into the direction of this new cinematic universe. Beyond the rapid ascent of Inde Navarrette following the success of Obsession, or Adam Driver's eventual agreement to join Marvel after previous refusals, the incremental casting reveals are painting a clearer picture.

So far, Sadie Sink's Jean Grey served as an entry point in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though official word on Wolverine remains absent. Charles Xavier is confirmed, played by Christopher Abbott, but Magneto's involvement is still under wraps. Cyclops (Kit Connor), Storm (Maya Boyd), and Rogue (Inde Navarrette) are set for the heroic side, while Emma Frost (Samara Weaving) and Mr. Sinister (Adam Driver) will represent the antagonists.

New details have emerged with the casting of an actor in the role of a well-known mutant who, given his past cinematic treatment, truly deserves justice.

X-Men Spreads Its Wings

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that actor Asa Germann has been cast in the new X-Men film, taking on the role of Warren Worthington III, also known as Angel. Germann had previously auditioned for the role of Cyclops, which ultimately went to Kit Connor, but he evidently left a strong impression on producers and director Jake Schreier.

Asa Germann's career is still in its early stages, but he has already landed several prominent roles. He was featured in the series Gen V and made an appearance in Season 4 of The Boys, where he sided with Homelander. He also played one of the ill-fated supporting characters in Scream 7, where he was killed by his Ghostface mother.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, Angel is a founding member of the X-Men. This heir to the Worthington empire is initially gifted with enormous feathered wings, which later become metallic as his personality evolves, leading to his transformation into Archangel.

Angel has previously appeared in films, notably in the chaotic X-Men 3: The Last Stand (2006), portrayed by Ben Foster, where his very limited role was symptomatic of the film's many issues. The winged mutant was almost in the first X-Men film in 2000, was then slated for X-Men 2, and, seemingly destined for the franchise's less-acclaimed entries, returned in X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Ben Hardy.

This new X-Men film, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), is one of the biggest projects on the MCU's horizon following the announced semi-reboot with Avengers: Doomsday (scheduled for December 16, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 2027). Expected in theaters in May 2028, it will be the first film of Phase 7, preceding Ghost Rider with Ryan Gosling in July 2028, and Black Panther 3 in December 2028. Shang-Chi 2 and Nova are theoretically set to arrive after these.
