"It’s very much pushing me out of my comfort zone, but I would only do that, I think, with that team,” she told Collider, emphasizing the trust she places in the creative team behind the project.

The actress's confidence in the team extends particularly to director Alexandra Magistro. While Rot is Magistro's first feature film, she is hardly a newcomer to the horror genre or Flanagan's universe. Her extensive background includes writing and producing on the anticipated Carrie series, serving as a producer on The Exorcist, and holding the position of Vice President of Creative at Red Room Pictures. Midthunder, who previously worked with Magistro on Carrie, expressed immense admiration for her director. "She’s so smart, she loves the horror genre," Midthunder affirmed, adding that Magistro "really deserves this moment."

Rot, penned by Geo Bradley, centers on an antisocial man who becomes a trauma cleaner after the death of his hoarder mother. As he grapples with his past, his mental state begins to unravel and deteriorate. The film also features Cooper Koch and Matthew Lillard, who is another familiar face from the upcoming Carrie series.

Mike Flanagan, known for critically acclaimed horror works like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, produces the film under his Red Room Pictures banner, further solidifying the project's genre credentials. While Rot promises to be a compelling addition to the psychological horror landscape, a release date has not yet been announced.

Midthunder's comments came while she was at TIFF promoting How We Stand, Marie Clements’ magical realist drama, which recently had its world premiere there. The film sees Midthunder starring alongside Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Isabel DeRoy-Olson, and Cara Jade Myers.
