Marvel's VisionQuest is gearing up to deliver a fresh narrative within the MCU, building upon the foundations laid by WandaVision and Agatha All Along. The series, which promises to expand the possibilities of superhero storytelling, will feature the intriguing mercenary Paladin, portrayed by the seasoned actor Todd Stashwick.
According to /Film, Paladin is depicted as a mercenary tasked with hunting down Vision, representing the latest in a line of characters to bear the mantle. The character's mysterious client is expected to be a source of major reveals as the series progresses, setting the stage for a compelling new villain.
VisionQuest itself is poised to be a significant entry, delving deeper into the dynamic between Paul Bettany's Vision and James Spader's Ultron. As /Film's review notes, the series offers "a story about grief, parenthood, and the power of connection — all wrapped up in the shiny superhero patina of two archrival robots exploring their all-too-fragile humanity." Beyond its central duo, the show will also feature an ensemble of Stark Industries' AI castoffs, including Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., James D'Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., and Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H.
Todd Stashwick's casting as Paladin is particularly noteworthy given his long-standing collaboration with VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas. Stashwick has previously worked with Matalas on two critically acclaimed genre series: 12 Monkeys, where Matalas served as co-developer and showrunner, and Star Trek: Picard, which Matalas also helped oversee. On Picard, Stashwick garnered significant praise for his portrayal of Captain Liam Shaw, a character partly inspired by Robert Shaw's iconic Quint from Jaws.
Stashwick's career spans decades, beginning in the late 1990s with appearances in procedural dramas like Law & Order before quickly establishing himself as a reliable presence in genre entertainment. His impressive resume includes roles in beloved shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off Angel, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Heroes. He has also crossed the DC-Marvel divide, having appeared in the Batman prequel series Gotham before joining the MCU.
With his proven track record in complex, character-driven genre narratives, Todd Stashwick is a strong choice to bring the enigmatic Paladin to life in VisionQuest, promising a fresh and compelling antagonist for the MCU. Fans can stream VisionQuest episodes on Disney+.
