A24 has officially announced that 'The Invite,' directed by and starring Olivia Wilde, will be available for streaming exclusively on HBO Max starting October 23. For those who prefer traditional television viewing, the film will also air on HBO linear on October 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The film centers on Joe (Seth Rogen) and Angela (Wilde), a married couple whose relationship is teetering on the brink. Their fragile domesticity is put to the ultimate test when they extend an invitation to their enigmatic upstairs neighbors, portrayed by Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz, for what promises to be a memorable dinner party. As the evening unfolds, it quickly spirals into unexpected and often uncomfortable territory, delving deep into the complexities and unspoken tensions of modern relationships.

'The Invite' is an English-language adaptation of Cesc Gay's 2020 Spanish film, The People Upstairs (originally titled Sentimental). Wilde directed from a screenplay penned by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, with David Permut, Ben Browning, and Megan Ellison serving as producers. The film first garnered attention with its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received positive critical acclaim before heading into wide release.

During its theatrical run over the summer, the indie production proved to be a box-office success, raking in over $55 million worldwide. Its strong performance underscored the audience's appetite for smart, character-driven dramedies.

Looking ahead, Olivia Wilde is set to direct 'Naughty,' a holiday comedy for Universal Pictures. The project, which Deadline first reported on in 2023, is slated to star Jennifer Aniston and Peter Dinklage, further showcasing Wilde's diverse range as a filmmaker.
